Introduction

Bandar Seri Begawan is often regarded as a city that is strictly regulated. Although it is not on my list of places to visit, I found the Islamic city to be intriguing. Hence, I promptly made a flight booking to explore this lesser-known Southeast Asian destination.

I landed at the Brunei International Airport in the middle of the night and immediately hopped in on the city’s ride-hailing service called ‘Dart.’ An absolute quietude greeted me as I approached downtown. Establishments along the route are completely shut while nearly nothing traverses the roadways.

Bandar Seri Begawan is the capital of the oil-rich sultanate of Brunei Darussalam. The city cultivates undisturbed tranquility and a calming atmosphere in contrast to others’ hectic pace of life.

Towering skyscrapers, as well as ultra-modern infrastructures, dominate the horizons of many metropolitans. While majestic and extravagantly decorated mosques stood out against Brunei’s urbanscapes.

Bandar Seri Begawan may not be a crowd-pleasing tourist destination as Hong Kong and Bangkok. But, it promises a peaceful retreat for visitors seeking solace in the heart of the city.
